Rachel Quam is a Registered Nurse with an extensive background in patient advocacy and program development. She has served diverse populations presenting a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and developmental challenges. She is passionate about using a strengths-based approach when working with marginalized communities and victims of domestic violence and sexual trauma. Having to rebuild her life from scratch from stay-at-home mom, to college graduate, to a successful career as a Registered Nurse, she still considers her greatest joy to be her two daughters. They reside in St. Paul, MN with a lovable dog and two anti-social cats.

The SANE-A course provided the foundational knowledge and critical thinking skills necessary to provide holistic, comprehensive care to patient survivors of sexual assault. I studied content on sexual violence, victim responses, crisis intervention, collaboration with community agencies, medicolegal history taking skills, assessment and physical examination skills, medicolegal specimen collection and photography, STI and pregnancy testing and prophylaxis, medicolegal documentation, discharge and follow-up planning, and legal considerations and judicial proceedings.

My teachers included Dr. Andrew Weil, Director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine; Dr. Deepak Chopra, leader in the field of mind-body medicine; Dr. David Katz, Director of Yale University's Prevention Research Center; Dr. Walter Willett, Chair of Nutrition at Harvard University; Geneen Roth, bestselling author and expert on emotional eating; and many other leading researchers and nutrition authorities. 

My eduation has equipped me with extensive knowledge in holistic nutrition, health coaching, and preventive health. Drawing on these skills and knowledge of different dietary theories, I work with clients to help them make lifestyle changes that produce real and lasting results.

The program philosophy was developed from nursing theorists Margaret Newman, Barbara Dossey, and Jean Watson. I learned to operate in the roles of holistic caregiver, teacher, advocate, leader/manager, and interdisciplinary collaborator.

This education, combined with my health coaching certification program, allows me to support clients with finding methods to holistically support chronic illness management.
